TYPES OF CONCRETE GRINDERS AND THEIR PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

For minor and major projects that involve concrete, grinding the material could become a very serious issue. However, contractors that render these services use different machines and one of them is concrete grinder.

But the selection of this machine depends upon the size of the project and thus, you can choose from different versions that we have discussed here in this post.

These concrete grinders are broadly classified into three names like hand-held, walk-behind and then, the last one is the ride-on concrete grinders. Let us have a look at these names and their features.

Hand-Held Concrete Floor Grinders -

  • According to the experts, these hand-held units are ideal for smaller applications and for fiddly jobs like grinding areas that are close to walls, in corners and other hard-to-reach places.
  • They have very compact size and because of this, they are very light in weight and hence, very easy to manoeuvre.

  • Because of these features, they are an ideal choice for domestic projects like smoothing concrete countertops, bathroom floors and rough patches on concrete floors.
  • Other than this, these hand-held concrete grinders are also ideal for smoothing vertical surfaces like walls and door jambs.
  • However, they are hand held, you will have to control it manually and with this, you will achieve really soft surface.

Walk-Behind Concrete Floor Grinders-

  • The next version is given the name of "Walk-Behind Concrete Grinders" that come in various sizes ranging from single disc units right up to multiple disc units.
  • Because they are very easy to manoeuvre, it can be used for polishing larger surface areas and even concrete floors both in domestic as well commercial areas.
  • Another point to note is that they are well-suited for profiling large slab surfaces in a relatively short space of time and are a very popular choice in even amongst first-time users.
  • The "Walk-Behind Concrete Grinders" is categorised in terms of size, i.e. small, medium and large and all of them are greatly helpful in grinding the concrete.

Ride-On Floor Grinders-

  • The next name is given the name of "Ride-On Floor Grinders" that are used to grind and polish surfaces of commercial areas.
  • They could be used in areas such as floors in shopping complexes, commercial buildings, retail outlets, warehouses and distribution centres, etc.
  • They can be powered by electricity, gas or propane and are able to cover around a metre wide in one pass.

TYPES OF EPOXY USED FOR EPOXY FLOOR COATING IN SYDNEY

Epoxy floor coating has got a reputation of being one of the most durable options in terms of floor coating. Those belonging to this business believe it to be very stable, durable and robust for a number of reasons and at the same time, it has got the versatility to be used in several applications.

For example – it can be used residentially, commercially and then, industrially as well and the most significant point is that you will also see epoxy garage floors Sydney as well.

This versatility is there because of several reasons and one of them is the presence of different types of materials that enable it to be used in different applications.

Epoxy FlooringHere in this post, we will have a quick look at the types and where they can be applied effectively.

Solvent Borne Epoxy:

  • Experts say that this material is the traditional version that has been in since this material was used for the first time.
  • A very notable characteristic of this material is that it is mixed with a relatively higher amount of organic a compound called "solvent" that dries up when the epoxy is applied.
  • This type has a number of advantages and there are some controversies too, attached to it.
  • Advantages are that it has built-in cohesiveness and the ability to be applied into a thin film across the surface.
  • The main question related to this is that the solvents are highly volatile and moreover, it is said that the vapors can be toxic, if inhaled excessively.
  • One more apprehension is that it can be extremely inflammable and this is a very important thing to keep in mind while fixing solvent-borne epoxy.

Water-Borne Epoxy:

  • The next type used is the water-borne epoxy and the name signifies, it is basically soluble in water.

  • One more meaning of this name is that it uses water as the main carrier and there are no solvents included at all.
  • The best thing is that it is not at all reactive as we saw with the solvent-based and this translates into the fact that it is safer than the one discussed above.
  • At the same time, ease of application is something that you need to take note of and with it; thin and thick coats can be applied without strenuous efforts.
  • As far as cleaning is concerned, you would be surprised to know that it requires just water in order to be cleaned up.
  • According to the experts, this type is mainly used for hydrostatic pressure applications on concrete and concrete slabs.
  • Despite all the qualities and positives that we discussed you need to understand that this version too has its share of drawbacks, but they are not as serious as those present in solvent-based epoxy.

100% Solids Epoxy:

  • Because this is pure epoxy, it is given the name of 100 percent epoxy and the top thing to know is that it puts not environmental impacts whatsoever.
  • However, before picking up this version, you need to understand that it is the hardest one to apply and thus, DIY would be totally useless and there are no chances of thin and thick coats as well.
These are the basic types of epoxy floor coatings in Sydney and they all have some advantages, but then, there are disadvantages as well. Therefore, at the time of selection, the best thing is to understand as to which kind of epoxy floor coating will be just right for your particular application.
